『色覚を考える展 ヒトと動物の色世界』展示風景

地球上の生き物は、みんな同じ景色を見ているのでしょうか。例えば多くのヒトは、目の中に異なる波長の光に反応するセンサーを３種類持っていますが、イヌは、２種類の光センサーで色を認識していると言われています。その他ミツバチは、ヒトには見えない紫外線をとらえて蜜のありかを見分けます。そして多くの鳥は、４種の光センサーを持つため、私たちよりはるかに多様な色を見ているかもしれません。このように、地球上の動物は個々の色の世界を生きていて、さらに同じヒトでも、さまざまなタイプの色覚が存在します。
本展は、生き物の「色覚」をテーマにした、アートとテクノロジーの融合による体験型展覧会です。動物の色覚を再現したVR 映像、紫外線や赤外線を利用したアート作品など、色覚多様性とその仕組みについて楽しく体験しながら理解を深める作品を展示します。さまざまな生き物の色覚を体験することで、見慣れた世界に、知られざる景色が存在していることを感じていただければ幸いです。

■色の国際科学芸術研究センター カラボギャラリー［東京工芸大学厚木キャンパス］
「色」の楽しさを科学と芸術の視点から体験できるギャラリー。本展は、2018年4月にカラボギャラリーで開催された「色覚を考える展」をバージョンアップして開催します。
Do all living things on earth see the same scenery? Many humans have three types of sensors in their eyes that respond to different wavelengths of light. Dogs are said to have two types of light sensors for recognizing colors. Honeybees use ultraviolet rays invisible to humans to locate nectar. Many birds have four types of light sensors; perhaps they see a lot more variety of colors than we do. Animals on earth live in their own worlds of colors, and even among humans, there are different types of color vision.
This is a hands-on exhibition combining art and technology and focuses on color vision of living things. The exhibition features a VR video that reproduces the color vision of animals as well as artworks that use ultraviolet and infrared rays. The works deepen understanding of the diversity of color vision and its mechanisms while offering a fun experience. We hope that by experiencing the color vision of various living things, visitors will discover that there are unknown sceneries that exist in the familiar world.
